Hobsons invited Watson Wyatt to specify its target universities and degree subjects, and was able to match the company with three teams from the University of Manchester, two from the University of Warwick and two from Imperial College London.
Mentoring day
On 31 October 2006, Watson Wyatt invited the members of all its student teams to the company’s Reigate office to meet the mentors who would be coaching them throughout the game. The mentors, who travelled from around the country to meet their students, were given a presentation by a member of the Hobsons GMC team about the game and how they can support their teams.
The students also received a presentation about graduate opportunities with Watson Wyatt before meeting with their mentors to discuss how they were planning to tackle the GMC.
Student interaction
For the mentors, this was a unique opportunity to spend time working with penultimate and final-year students – and, quite possibly, some future Watson Wyatt employees. For the students, it gave them the chance to get their business plans ‘sense-checked’ and take advantage of their mentors’ real-life experience.
A strong start
After Decision 3 of 5 in round one of the competition, several of the Watson Wyatt teams are well-placed to be among the 64 top-ranked teams that will progress to the semi-finals.
