Northumbria University a winner at Boston CRM conference

Northumbria University beat off stiff competition from 750 universities across three continents to take the coveted Circle of Excellence Award, at the recent EMT Excellence Awards ceremony in the Boston State Room, Massachusetts

The awards recognise the exceptional achievements of Hobsons’ Enrolment Management Technology customers, who are using our CRM (customer relationship management) software to maximum effect. The goal: to transform relationships with prospective and current students through dynamic enquiry and communications management.

The ceremony was the culmination of Connect U 2007: The EMT Users’ Conference – the biggest ever gathering of practitioners in strategic enrolment management and CRM for higher education.

‘Improving our service’
Accepting the award, Martin Thomas, Marketing Manager at Northumbria University said:

'Being presented with the Circle of Excellence Award at the EMT Users’ Conference means a great deal to us! At Northumbria we’re always trying to find ways of improving our service to our potential and current students, which is why we chose to use the EMT Connect suite of communications products. It’s great to work with Hobsons, a company that believes in continual development, and not only listens to its customers but acts on their feedback.

'It’s fantastic to be in the company of universities such as Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, who have really made advances with the EMT products. We’ll certainly be back at the conference next year as it adds real value to how we use the software and won’t be resting on our laurels. We’ll be looking to implement the new ideas we’ve picked up and integrate the software’s new features into our communications.'

Networking and sharing experiences
A record number of UK customers crossed the pond to attend the Boston conference – 35 individuals from 20 universities; a massive increase on the five UK clients who participated last year. UK clients enjoyed VIP treatment at some exclusive social events, as well as the chance to get to know each other and share their experiences of using the EMT products. On a harbour dinner cruise aboard ‘The Spirit of Boston’, the Massachusetts mist failed to dampen the party atmosphere.

'We’re proud to be fostering a real sense of community through the EMT Users’ Network,' said Thomas Mason, Client Development Manager at Hobsons. 'The Boston event followed on from our CRM conference and Users’ Summit in London in February, and it’s great to see familiar faces embracing newcomers from the ten universities to have signed up to EMT in the last four months. Feedback from the event has been hugely positive – everybody had a great time, leaving enthused with new ideas and racing to implement all they’ve learnt.'

EMT product development
Customers were given a sneak preview of future developments to the EMT software – including a Facebook application to grab the attention of teenagers spending ever more time on social networking sites, and a new product to address the growing problem of student retention. They were also to voice their suggestions for improvements directly to the software developers. Next year’s conference is planned to take place in Las Vegas, and will be bigger and better than ever.

Damian Stevenson of Nottingham Trent University agrees: 'Thanks for a brilliant conference. Learnt a heck of a lot – it’s the most productive conference we’ve ever been to! The challenge is now on to try and manage the implementation process for another year in order to do the same again in Vegas…!'
