Oxford University?s Said Business School launches MBA student competition to promote sustainable new businesses
The entrepreneurial challenge has long been a mainstay of MBA life. Students get together before a panel of judges to pitch their business ideas, the best being rewarded with accolades and – often – start-up cash. However, more and more these days the judges are looking for something beyond profit opportunity – they want profit, environmental friendliness and social equity.
Social and economic benefit
Oxford University's Saïd Business School has launched a competition to promote the creation of sustainable new ventures that combine financial, social and environmental returns. The contest is intended to promote sustainable new businesses that mix financial returns with 'significant social and environmental benefits.'
Inspirational
Fiona Reid, Director of Entrepreneurship Saïd commented: ‘The aim of the competition is to inspire entrepreneurs to tackle complex twenty-first century challenges by setting-up innovative commercial ventures. We hope the competition will become a launch pad for successful businesses in the key challenge areas facing society.’
A first prize of £21,000 will be awarded along with three runners-up prizes of between £5,000 and £10,000.
