Podcasts ? the new wave of blogs

Podcasting may sound intimidating, but the many of the world's leading MBA schools are now joining the podcast revolution

To the uninitiated, podcasts sound horribly complicated, involving frightening terms such as ‘RSS feeds’, ‘syndication’ and ‘push technology’. Put simply, podcasting is essentially a way of broadcasting downloadable information from your website, either in audio or visual format (or both).

The League of MBA Bloggers has a wary view of podcasting. Podcasting, of course, allows business schools to broadcast the official message without interference, as in the case of Wharton@Knowledge. Student MBA blogs on the other hand are seen as a mixed blessing by many business schools, who value the publicity but dread the subjective opinions and lack of accuracy.

Along with Wharton, the University of San Francisco, Haas at Berkeley and MIT have all joined the podcast revolution. Another surprisingly good source of information is the MBA Podcaster, whereby a pair of radio journalists introduce reports on various aspects of applying to join MBA programmes, albeit with a rather American bias.

Some planned improvements to the Hobsons MBA website include podcasts, online admissions chats, student blogs and an ‘ask the expert’ section. These improvements are planned for this summer – we’ll keep you posted.
