Middlesex and Coventry to host inductions for Chinese graduates

23.09.07

Middlesex University and Coventry University have been selected to provide orientation programmes for Chinese graduates taking part in the UK/China Graduate Work Experience Programme, for which Hobsons is the UK managing agent

With less than two months until the arrival of the first intake of Chinese graduates, planning is in full force for the UK/China Graduate Work Experience Programme, a new scheme established by the UK and Chinese governments.

76 internship opportunities, in a variety of businesses around the country, have been secured for the first tranche of graduates. Roles range from a Maritime and Ports Engineering Internship in Swindon to a role in an Asset Backed Securitisation trading team in London!

The application process
Internship opportunities are currently being advertised in China by the China Scholarship Council, with applications for the first intake closing on 25 September. Face-to-face interviews will be conducted in China by Hobsons staff, followed by telephone interviews with employers.

The selected interns will arrive in the UK on 11 November. They will be met at the airport and taken to the institution where they will participate in an orientation programme aimed at preparing them for living and working in the UK.

The induction programmes
Middlesex University and Coventry University have been selected to provide orientation for the first tranche of graduates, and will each deliver a two-week programme including sessions on cross-cultural awareness, living in the UK, British culture, working for a British business and communication in the workplace, as well as social activities and outings.

At the conclusion of the orientation programme, the graduates will disperse around the UK to their places of employment. Hobsons will maintain regular contact with them and ensure that they are provided with ongoing support for the duration of their internships.

February's intake
A second intake of graduates is scheduled to arrive in the UK in February 2008. HEIs so far confirmed to deliver orientation for the second intake include Brunel University, the European Business School London and the University of Warwick.
