The International Final began with a welcome speech from the Macau Management Association, followed by words of encouragement from Luis Alves Costa, founder of the Global Management Challenge.
During the first day of the International Final, all 24 teams managed a virtual start-up company. They were challenged to lead their virtual business to profitability within just five quarters.
The top performing eight teams went through to the second day of the competition. Each team had to manage a new company over another five quarters, with the team gaining the highest price on the virtual GMC stock exchange being crowned the international winners of the 2007 competition.
Winners announced
The winning team was announced by Pedro Alves Costa, and a trophy was presented by the Macau Management Association. The Czech team comprised five students and young managers from the University of Economics, Prague and electricity company CEZ Group.
Unfortunately, team UK – from the University of Warwick – were knocked out at the end of the first day. They faced stiff competition from the Czechs, who played directly against them during the first heat of the competition.
Fourth place was secured by five students from EFREI in Paris (the Engineering School of IT & Management). The team was mentored through the competition by Hobsons France.
